Lamborghini Sián, the first 819-hp hybrid thunderbolt

The new super sports car created in Sant'Agata Bolognese has already set several records. The V12 turns hybrid and reaches powers never seen before on a Lambo

It is the most powerful car ever made by the company based in Sant'Agata Bolognese and Lamborghini's first hybrid. Its name evokes power and speed: Sián means thunderbolt in the dialect of Bologna. Lambo's latest creation packs 819 hp (602 kW) and reaches a top speed in excess of 350 km/h, courtesy of an innovative 48-volt electric motor that develops 34 hp installed in the gearbox for the first time on a Lamborghini. The motor is coupled to the V12 engine, that develops 785 hp (577 kW) at 8,500 rpm, the highest power ever achieved by a Lamborghini engine.

THE RECORD-BREAKING HYBRID

The Sián is the Italian car manufacturer's first step towards electrification and anticipates the new-generation Lamborghini V12 engines. It has a futuristic design and implements unique hybrid technologies with a supercapacitor and direct connection between electric motor and axles. The pioneering supercapacitor technology was originally mounted on the Lamborghini Aventador and has now been developed to store ten times more power.

It is three times more powerful than a battery of the same weight and three times lighter than a battery producing the same power. Positioned between cockpit and engine, it guarantees perfect weight distribution. The electrical system with supercapacitor and electric motor weighs just 34 kilograms and contributes to achieving a remarkable power-to-weight ratio of 1.0 kg/hp. The symmetrical power flow has the same efficiency in the charging and discharging cycles, resulting in an efficient, lightweight hybrid solution.

BRAKING AND CHARGING

The new super sports car implements an advanced regenerative braking system specially developed by Lamborghini. By exploiting the symmetrical behaviour of the supercapacitor, which, unlike normal lithium-ion batteries, can be charged and discharged with the same power, the Sián energy storage system is fully charged whenever the car brakes. The stored energy increases the readily available power that the driver can instantly exploit to increase torque during acceleration up to 130 km/h, at which point the electric motor is automatically disconnected.

THE MOST EXCLUSIVE LAMBO

The hybrid engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 2.8 seconds and improves traction when shifting in higher gears. All this performance is encapsulated in the typical style and elegance of the Bologna-based automaker. The design of the Sián is clean and streamlined with a low front and integrated carbon fibre splitter surmounted by the trademark Lamborghini "Y"-shaped headlights.

Only 63 cars will be made to celebrate 1963, the year of foundation of Automobili Lamborghini. All the cars will be customised with unique and exclusive finishes created by the Lamborghini Style Centre for the 63 buyers who have already booked the new model.

DEBUT AT THE FRANKFURT SHOW

A Gea Green configuration with Electrum Gold accents of the Sián will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (12-22 September 2019) to represent the electrified Lamborghini of the future. The car exhibits rare multi-layered paintwork, with golden flakes and crystals, that befits its interior design. The aniline leather upholstery in earthy "Terra di Sant'Agata Bolognese" colour complements trailblazing 3D-printed parts.
